An e-Visa is an official document permitting entry into and travel from Egypt. Applicants obtain visas electronically after entering required information and paying by credit or debit card; a download link is sent by email. Nationals of listed countries, including the United States of America, may be issued an e-Visa upon application on the Egypt e-Visa Portal.

The Egypt e-Visa Portal at visa2egypt.gov.eg titles itself Egypt e-Visa Portal. The footer attributes the site to the Ministry of Interior, Arab Republic of Egypt.
The portal states you must create an application at least 7 days before departure and pay using Visa, MasterCard, or other debit cards.
The U.S. Department of State notes that the Government of Egypt has launched a website for issuing e-visas and describes that government site as the official source — naming the government channel, not a rule that every .com address is fake. U.S. citizens and citizens of 44 other countries can apply for an e-visa before traveling.

Lookalike and third-party sites
Travel.State.Gov warns that many sites claim to offer e-visas, some charging more than the government channel. Treat a site as a lookalike impersonator when it claims to be the Government of Egypt, the Ministry of Interior, an Egyptian embassy, or the official e-Visa office — and it is not.
