e-Arrival vs eVisa and OCI

Path What it is
eVisa Electronic visa / ETA before you fly โ€” see eVisa guide
OCI Overseas Citizen of India status โ€” not a substitute for the e-Arrival card
e-Arrival card Arrival information filed before landing โ€” not a visa

An eVisa, sticker visa, or OCI card does not replace the e-Arrival step. Official wording treats the e-Arrival card as arrival information, separate from your visa path.

Who needs to complete it

The Government of India eVisa portal addresses foreigners and OCI card holders for the e-Arrival card.

Consulate General of India, San Francisco states that effective 1 October 2025, all foreign nationals, including OCI cardholders, are required to complete the Electronic Arrival Card prior to entry into India.

US citizens visiting India still need their visa or permitted status path and this arrival form when the rules apply to them.

When and where to submit

Timing: complete and submit the e-Arrival card online within 72 hours before arrival in India.
