What happens after payment and submission
After final submission and payment, keep the application confirmation and the details needed to retrieve the case. Successful submission means the application has entered the process; it is not the visa decision.
For the covered e-Tourist and e-Business applications, the fee must be paid at least four days before expected travel. If that payment boundary is missed, the application will not be processed, so a saved form or submission reference does not by itself keep the case moving.
The decision comes later. The Government of India guidance says the applicant is informed by email whether the visa status is Granted or Rejected, using the email address entered in the application. Monitor that inbox, including any filtered or junk-mail folders, but do not rely on email alone when preparing to travel.

A GRANTED ETA confirms the eVisa decision needed for the journey, but it remains distinct from the authorities' admission decision at the border. For departure planning, the immediate rule is clear: verify GRANTED on the official portal before flying.
Payment updates are not visa decisions
Payment status can take up to two hours to update because of technical or network delays. If you were charged but the portal has not yet reflected the payment, wait for that update and check the payment status through the official portal before trying again.
The two-hour period concerns payment reconciliation only. It is not an India eVisa approval time and does not indicate whether the visa will be Granted or Rejected. Paying again before the first transaction has had time to update can create a separate payment problem without moving the visa decision forward.
